Forza Horizon 6 Gameplay: Japan Map, Release Date & PS5 Confirmed
The Xbox Developer Direct on January 22, 2026 delivered the first official Forza Horizon 6 gameplay footage and trailers, confirming the series' biggest open-world adventure set entirely in Japan. Forza Horizon 6 launches May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the PlayStation 5 version arriving later in 2026 (exact PS5 date TBD).
Forza Horizon 6 Japan Map: Biggest Ever with Massive Tokyo & Dynamic Seasons
Japan is the largest map in Forza Horizon history. Tokyo is the biggest city Playground Games has ever created, packed with real-world landmarks like Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Tower, and Ginkgo Avenue. The map includes detailed countryside, mountains, touge roads, and city streets for maximum authenticity. Dynamic seasons return, transforming the environment from cherry blossom spring to snowy winters.
Story & Progression: Start as Tourist + New Collection Journal
Unlike previous games where you begin as a superstar, players start as a tourist arriving for the Horizon Festival and climb the ranks. Traditional wristband progression returns, joined by the new Collection Journal — inspired by Japanese stamp collecting. Capture photos of murals, landmarks, and scenic views to build a digital memento collection while exploring.
Forza Horizon 6 Cars & Customization: Largest Launch Roster Ever
Japanese car culture takes center stage with the biggest launch car roster in series history, expanded customization options, and a fully overhauled roster for better balancing. Rare aftermarket and unique vehicles are available to unlock. Cover cars are the 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype and 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
New Building Features: Multiplayer Structures & The Estate
Players can now build custom structures anywhere on the map with full multiplayer support — friends can collaborate in real time. Unlock player houses for storage and fast travel, plus the massive new The Estate: a huge blank-canvas plot to create personal race tracks, mountain hideaways, factory complexes, and more using in-game currency.
Car Meets: Daikoku PA-Inspired Social Hubs
New always-available Car Meets, inspired by real-world Daikoku parking area meets, let players hang out, share custom liveries and tunes, and directly purchase versions of cars they admire from other players.
New Driving & Accessibility Features
Auto-drive and proximity radar assist driving. Accessibility is improved with a customizable high-contrast mode for visually impaired players.
Gundam Crossover Tease
The teaser trailer ends with massive robotic feet stepping near a car — a clear hint at drivable Gundam mobile suits, perfectly suited to the Japan setting and Forza Horizon's history of fun crossovers.
Forza Horizon 6 releases May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. PlayStation 5 version follows later in 2026.
